Yes — Turtle Island Bali is one of the easiest boat trips in Bali to do with a toddler. The glass bottom boat crossing from Tanjung Benoa takes about 10–15 minutes on calm, sheltered water, there is no minimum age for the boat ride itself, and a private boat (IDR 500,000 per boat, up to 9 people) lets your family set the pace. Book a morning slot and most families are back at their hotel before nap time.
The questions below are the ones parents from Australia, the UK and the US ask me on WhatsApp every week — answered honestly.
Minimum Ages: What Toddlers Can and Cannot Do
The core experience — the glass bottom boat and the island visit — is open to all ages. Toddlers ride on a parent’s lap, watch fish through the glass panels, and meet the turtles from dry land. No swimming is required at any point.
Watersports are a different story. Activities like the banana boat (IDR 110K) and jet ski (IDR 235K) carry minimum age requirements and are built for older kids and adults. Message us with your children’s ages and we will confirm exactly what each child can join. In practice, most parents of under-fives simply book a package without watersports — it is our most requested family option. See the family Turtle Island experience for how that day is structured, or browse all tours and packages.
Life Jackets for Small Children
Every passenger wears a life jacket, and child sizes are available on board. Fit matters more than anything for a toddler, so tell us your child’s age and approximate weight when you book — the crew will have the smallest size ready at the jetty. If your little one already has a favourite infant float vest, you are welcome to bring it.
The boats have shaded seating, the lagoon crossing is short and flat, and the crew are used to nervous first-timers of every age. If your toddler decides boats are terrifying five minutes in, a private charter means you can simply turn around — no strangers’ schedules to negotiate.
Planning Around Nap Time
The whole experience runs about 1.5 to 2.5 hours from the Tanjung Benoa jetty, depending on how long you linger on the island. That makes two windows work well:
The morning run (recommended). Start around 9:00 AM, when the water is calmest and the island is quietest. From Nusa Dua hotels the transfer is only 10–20 minutes, so you can be back poolside by midday — nap saved.
The post-nap afternoon. Staying in Seminyak or Uluwatu? Let your toddler nap in the car on the way over, do the boat mid-afternoon, and roll straight into an evening plan. Many families pair it with a sunset — the full-day South Bali itinerary shows how the pieces fit, including finish times that leave room for Uluwatu or a Jimbaran dinner.
What to Pack for Turtle Island with a Toddler
- Sun hat and reef-safe sunscreen — shade exists, but the boat deck is bright
- Swim diaper and a full change of clothes
- Water shoes or sandals for the sandy paths
- Snacks and a filled water bottle
- A soft carrier rather than a stroller — sand and boardwalks do not mix with wheels
- A small towel and a dry bag for wet things
Hotel Pickup: The Easiest Way to Travel with Little Ones
Skip the taxi negotiation with a toddler on your hip. We arrange door-to-door pickup from Nusa Dua, Uluwatu, Seminyak, Sanur and beyond — see packages with hotel pickup for how transfers work from each area. You can choose from three vehicle tiers: the Toyota Innova Zenix, the Toyota Alphard, or the seven-seat electric Denza D9 — transfer costs are quoted on request via WhatsApp, and you should mention a child seat when you message so we can arrange the right setup for your child’s age.
For a fully handled day, our complete private package — Alphard with driver included — is USD 100 per person, while island tours start from IDR 150K per person. The price page lays out every option side by side.
Can Toddlers See Baby Turtles Released?
Sometimes — and we will not pretend otherwise. Hatchling releases depend on the conservation schedule and on whether hatchlings are actually ready during your stay. It is never guaranteed, and any operator promising a release on a specific date is overselling. If a release matters to your family, send us your travel dates and we will tell you honestly what the chances look like — the turtle hatchling release tour page explains how the seasonal windows work.
