Most motorised watersports at Tanjung Benoa are open to guests aged 8 to 70 who are in reasonable health. Every ride starts with a safety briefing and a properly fitted life jacket, jet skis are always guided by an instructor, and each activity runs about 15 minutes on the water. If anyone in your group falls outside that age range, the glass bottom boat to Turtle Island welcomes all ages — from babies to grandparents.
We answer these three questions every single week on WhatsApp, usually from parents planning a family day out from Nusa Dua or Seminyak. So here is the honest, complete answer — written by our team on the ground at Tanjung Benoa, not copied from a brochure.
Age limits at Tanjung Benoa: the short version
There is no single government rulebook that every beach operator prints on a poster. In practice, the reputable operators we work with apply the same standards, and these are the limits we quote to our own guests:
- Banana boat — from age 8, riding with an adult. IDR 110K per person.
- Jet ski — from age 8 as a passenger with the instructor; adults drive with the instructor on board. IDR 235K per ride.
- Parasailing — from around age 8, subject to the day’s wind and the operator’s weight limits. Quoted on request via WhatsApp.
- Rolling donut and flying fish — from age 8-10 depending on sea conditions. Quoted on request via WhatsApp.
- Upper limit — around 70 for motorised rides, in good health. The boat crew has the final say on the day, and that is a feature, not an inconvenience.
- Under 8 or over 70? — the glass bottom boat, Turtle Island visit, and beach time have no age limit at all.
One honest caveat: pregnant guests, and anyone with heart conditions, back or neck problems, or recent surgery should skip the motorised rides. No operator worth booking will bend on this, and neither will we.
How long does each activity take?
Plan on roughly 15 minutes of ride time per activity — banana boat, jet ski, and the tube rides all run in that window. Parasailing is one flight of a few minutes, plus waiting time on the beach. With check-in, briefing, and life-jacket fitting, two or three activities plus the Turtle Island boat trip fills a comfortable half day: figure 3 to 4 hours at Tanjung Benoa in total.
That matters for your evening plans. Many of our Australian family guests want to finish in time for the Uluwatu sunset and Kecak dance — from Tanjung Benoa that is a 45-60 minute drive, so a morning start keeps the whole day relaxed. Our full-day South Bali itinerary maps this out hour by hour.
The safety standards you should expect — anywhere
Whether you book with us or anyone else, hold your operator to this list:
Life jackets for every rider, in the right size. Child-size jackets should exist and be offered, not requested. A briefing before every ride, in English, including the hand signal to stop. Jet skis guided by an instructor — at Tanjung Benoa you do not ride off alone, and that is the correct standard, not a downgrade. Morning departures — we schedule watersports before 11am when the sea inside the reef is calmest and queues are shortest. A crew willing to say no when the wind picks up. If an operator will put anyone on anything at any time, walk away.
Turtle Island Bali is operated by Juara Holding Group, running trips across Indonesia since 2015 with our own local team — so the boats, crews, and standards here are ones we use for our own families.
Travelling with toddlers or grandparents?
You do not need watersports to enjoy Tanjung Benoa. Our most-requested option among families is a no-watersports package: private glass bottom boat to Turtle Island at IDR 500,000 per boat (up to 9 guests), turtle conservation visit, and beach time — gentle enough for a 2-year-old and a 75-year-old on the same boat. See the family Turtle Island experience for how we structure it, and our price page for what is fixed versus quoted on request.
Tours start from IDR 150K per person, and hotel pickup from Nusa Dua, Uluwatu, Seminyak and beyond is available with three vehicle tiers — Toyota Innova Zenix, Toyota Alphard, or the electric Denza D9 — detailed on our packages with hotel pickup page.
