Baby Turtle Release Tour Bali — Honest Schedule Info

Yes, you can join a baby turtle release in Bali — but only when hatchlings are actually ready. Releases at Turtle Island (Tanjung Benoa) depend on the conservation schedule and on when eggs in the hatchery hatch, so no honest operator can guarantee one for a specific date. Here is our promise instead: tell us your dates on WhatsApp, and we check the real release schedule before you pay anything. If a release is happening, we build your tour around it. If not, we tell you straight — and offer turtle feeding, an education visit, or a symbolic hatchling adoption so the trip is still worth it.

That honesty is the whole point of this page. Plenty of listings sell a “guaranteed baby turtle release” year-round. Nature does not work that way, and we would rather earn your trust than your disappointment. Turtle Island Bali is operated by Juara Holding Group, an Indonesian travel operator since 2015, with our own boats, drivers, and team in Tanjung Benoa.

How the Baby Turtle Release Tour Works

The experience is a half-day trip from Tanjung Benoa beach, easy to combine with a fuller South Bali itinerary.

  1. You message us your dates. Before anything is booked, we contact the conservation site and confirm whether a hatchling release is scheduled during your stay.
  2. Hotel pickup (optional). We collect you from Nusa Dua, Uluwatu, Seminyak, or anywhere in South Bali — see packages with hotel pickup.
  3. Glass bottom boat crossing. A private boat (max 9 guests) glides over the reef so kids can watch fish and coral through the glass floor on the way to the island. More on the boat itself: glass bottom boat.
  4. Turtle encounter and education. You meet green, hawksbill, and olive ridley turtles — the three species found in Balinese waters — and learn how eggs are protected from poaching and predators.
  5. The release (when scheduled). At the water’s edge, each guest gently sets a hatchling on the sand and watches it scramble into the sea. It lasts minutes and stays with you for years.
  6. Back by early afternoon. Most guests are done by 13:00–14:00, leaving time for watersports, Uluwatu sunset, or a Jimbaran seafood dinner.

The Honest Part: Releases Are Never Guaranteed

Sea turtles nest seasonally. In Bali, most nesting and hatching activity falls roughly between April and October, and a clutch of eggs incubates for weeks before hatchlings emerge. Conservation staff release hatchlings when they are ready — not when tour buses arrive. That means:

  • Release days cluster in the mid-year months but exact dates shift with each nest.
  • Availability can change on short notice, even after a schedule is published.
  • Any operator promising a daily, year-round release is either overselling or cutting ethical corners.

So we flipped the model: schedule first, booking second. When you message us, we verify hatchling availability for your dates and reply with one of three answers — confirmed release, possible release (we monitor and update you), or no release expected. You decide with real information. For background on how turtle protection works here, read our turtle conservation page and our guide to Bali turtle release experiences and nesting sites.

No Release on Your Dates? Here Is What You Can Still Do

A quiet season does not mean a wasted trip. These alternatives are available year-round:

AlternativeWhat it involvesGood for
Turtle feeding & encounterFeed adult and juvenile turtles under staff guidance; see the hatchery pools where eggs incubateFamilies with young kids
Conservation education visitA walk-through of the rescue-and-release cycle, the three Bali turtle species, and the threats they faceCurious kids, school-age children
Symbolic hatchling adoptionSponsor a hatchling; the team releases it on the next scheduled date and you receive a photo updateTravelers who miss the season
Glass bottom boat + island comboThe full boat trip and island visit, no watersports requiredEveryone — this is the core trip

Many guests specifically ask for a package without watersports — that is completely fine. The boat trip, island visit, and any release or feeding stand on their own. Families can also fold this into our family Turtle Island experience or a full-day South Bali itinerary that ends at Uluwatu for sunset.

Prices

  • Private glass bottom boat to Turtle Island: IDR 500,000 per boat (up to 9 guests) — one boat, your group only.
  • Turtle Island tours: from IDR 150K per person.
  • Full private package — hotel pickup in a Toyota Alphard with driver, boat, island visit, and guided experience: USD 100 per person.
  • Release-day add-ons and conservation contributions: quoted on request via WhatsApp, because they depend on the schedule and group size.

Optional watersports at Tanjung Benoa start from IDR 110K (banana boat) and IDR 235K (jet ski). Full details on the price list and tours and packages pages.

Hotel Pickup and Timing — Built Around Your Evening Plans

Most of our guests stay in Nusa Dua, Uluwatu, or Seminyak, and almost everyone asks the same two questions: can you pick us up, and when do we finish? Yes, and early. From Nusa Dua the drive is 10–20 minutes; from Uluwatu or Seminyak roughly 45–60 minutes. A morning start has you back at the beach by early afternoon — comfortably in time for the Uluwatu Kecak sunset dance or a Jimbaran dinner. Directions and transfer options are on how to get there and getting to Turtle Island from Kuta, Seminyak, Jimbaran and Sanur.

Choose your vehicle (transfer quoted via WhatsApp):

  • Toyota Innova Zenix — comfortable mid-size for families;
  • Toyota Alphard — luxury MPV, included in the USD 100 full private package;
  • Denza D9 — high-end 7-seat electric for a silent, premium ride.

Same-day and next-day bookings are usually possible — message us and we confirm within the hour during the day.

How We Keep It Ethical

  • Hatchlings are released on the conservation schedule, never held back for tourist demand.
  • No lifting, riding, or posing on adult turtles; children handle hatchlings only briefly, with wet hands, under staff guidance.
  • No flash photography near hatchlings.
  • Transparent pricing — the boat is IDR 500,000 per boat, not a surprise per-person figure, and any donation is voluntary and stated up front.

Beyond Turtle Island

If sea life is your family’s theme, keep going: pair Bali with a Nusa Penida package to snorkel with wild turtles and mantas, or fly one hour east for our Turtle Island to Komodo 3D2N trip — one company end-to-end. Divers dream bigger with Raja Ampat expeditions. Landing at the airport soon? Skip the queues with VIP airport fast track from USD 105 per person, and first-timers should start with your first time in Bali or our tailored trip builder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the baby turtle release guaranteed?

No — and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. Releases depend on the conservation schedule and hatchling availability. We check the schedule for your exact dates before you book and tell you honestly what to expect.

When is the best time of year to see a turtle release in Bali?

Roughly April to October, when most nesting and hatching happens. Dates inside that window still shift with each nest, so always confirm with us first.

Can toddlers and young kids join?

Yes. The glass bottom boat is calm and short, and feeding or release moments are done at the shoreline under staff supervision. Tell us your children’s ages and we will pace the trip for them — see the family experience.

Can we do this without any watersports?

Absolutely. The boat, island visit, and release or feeding are a standalone tour. Watersports are optional add-ons, never a requirement.

Can we book for tomorrow?

Usually yes — same-day and next-day bookings are common. The only constraint is the release schedule itself, which we confirm the moment you message us.

Private boat or shared boat?

Private. The glass bottom boat is IDR 500,000 per boat for up to 9 guests, so your family or group has it to yourselves. More questions? Visit the FAQ.
