Marine Life You Can See at Turtle Island Bali

The waters around Turtle Island and Tanjung Benoa are teeming with fascinating marine life. From the conservation center on the island to the coral reefs visible through the glass bottom boat, here is what you can expect to see.

Sea Turtles

The stars of Turtle Island. The conservation center houses Green Sea Turtles (Chelonia mydas) and Hawksbill Turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) at various life stages. Baby turtles (hatchlings) are the most popular with visitors. Wild turtles are occasionally spotted during boat rides and snorkeling.

Coral Reef Fish

Over 100 species of reef fish inhabit the waters around Turtle Island including clownfish (made famous by Finding Nemo), angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, surgeonfish (Dory), damselfish, wrasse, and groupers. The glass bottom boat provides excellent viewing of these colorful species.

Coral Formations

The reef system features diverse coral types: branching Acropora corals, massive brain corals, delicate fan corals, table corals, and soft corals in shades of purple, pink, and yellow. These formations are visible through the glass bottom boat.

Other Marine Creatures

Sea urchins, starfish, sea cucumbers, giant clams, moray eels, and various species of shrimp and crabs inhabit the reef. Lucky snorkelers may spot reef sharks, rays, or cuttlefish in deeper waters.

Land Wildlife on the Island

Turtle Island is also home to colorful parrots, cockatoos, Balinese eagles, large iguanas, monitor lizards, and Burmese pythons (safely enclosed). These animals add to the wildlife sanctuary atmosphere of the island.
